We placed a giant order of take out from here and were pleased with nearly every item! Some of my favorite items were the open face steak sandwich and the fish sandwich. The steak was so tender and delicious and the fish was great! The best part of this place is the ambiance! Step inside and you'll be taking a step back in time. If you like the quiet northwoods feel, you will love mad dans. There are plenty of fish on the walls and old school bar fixtures. I have driven by this place so many times and have seen the line of people out the door. Now I see why they come here. A must see if you are in the Twin Lakes area.

I've only been here once for dinner and had one of the best chicken sandwich.... I heard they are known for their Mac n cheese, except it's only available Friday nights... I guess I'll be back on a Friday night! Everyone in the the restaurant & bar was very friendly as well, love the small town vibe!

As usual, we had a wonderful meal at Mad Dan's on Saturday night. So nice to see a restaurant packed and catering to extended families. I had the black and blue cheeseburger and my spouse had the prime rib. Both were cooked to perfection. The best part, a tiny bill for such prompt service and wonderful food with an unpretentious north woods feel.

Thank You Suzie and Staff!! Today we hosted our parents 60th wedding anniversary luncheon at your amazing family run restaurant. Our parents have been dining with you for over 30 years they drive an hour for your divine Chicken and Dumplings Soup and a Filet that rivals those in downtown Chicago. If you are near or far and want your family and friends to experience a wonderful restaurant that continues to greet and serve each guest as if you are family please take the time to visit Mad Dans. A true jewel to all who have been lucky enough to be served by Suzie & her Family.

Stopped by after deciding to take a drive in the country from NW Chicago suburbs, ordered broasted chicken, excellent! We also had a glass of new glarus beer with the meal. Chicken remained hot and juicy until the last bite. If your looking for a traditional WI sports bar and restaurant this is the place to go. From mid-August to Mid-Sep On your drive take back roads and buy sweet corner from the road stands, usually fresh picked and sweetest corn you will ever buy. 9-20-15, Drove up from NW suburbs for last week of sweet corn, had family along so we stopped at MD's for lunch. If you eat at a restaurant 3 times over 2 years and everytime the experience is as good as the first you know this owner understands the dynamics of their business model and execute it very well. Bloody mary was great! Chicken dumpling soup was great and the broasted chicken is exceptional. We plan to drive up for their Friday night fish fry next.

Wow! I'm always on a quest to find a great fish fry and this place hit it out of the park. I almost hesitate to say too many nice things as the crowds are already backed up on weekends. We arrive at 6:15 last Friday and had to wait an hour and half. But the food and drinks were worth the wait - very friendly staff - see Patty in the bar area. Lightly breaded haddock and brosted chicken on the same platter - all you can eat. The only reason I didn't rank a 5 was to maybe keep some folks away..... Love Wisconsin - Love this place!

45 minute wait for dinner. Apologies. Offer of free food. Dont want free food just want our food! Will likely never come here again. very SLOW service.

Food is good overall, but service was slooooooow. Also, the dinner salad is sad. That could use improvement. If you're into ambiance, restaurant decorations were a little strange. I loved the wood walls and cabin feel, but it was ruined by dollar store looking party decor everywhere and a christmas looking garland with green lights.

We go here all the time. The food is amazing and staff is friendly. The best bread I've ever had! If you go for Friday fish fry plan waiting or going early as they get very busy. It is totally worth the wait though! This is our favorite place!

Went here for the 3 piece broasted chicken & 1/2 rack of ribs. The dining hall is good sized and the service was OK. The really good reviews are a bit surprising. I like that they provided bread with the meal but it was not very good. The food was hot but the chicken on two meals was dry and the ribs were the same. There is much better chicken & ribs elsewhere.

Was in the Twin Lakes area this past weekend. The first time we drove by it I was convinced we needed to go there at some point....I just had a feeling about it. Finally made it for breakfast on Sunday. Split a Greek Omelette, a half order of biscuits and gravy and a side of the deluxe hash browns. Everything was amazing. Fresh spinach in the omelette, hash browns julienned or some such so they weren't mushy. The gravy was perfectly flavored and seasoned. Had the optimum texture - not too runny, not too gelatinous. And our waitress may have been the nicest person on the planet. The only reason I would not give it a full 5 stars - although I can't bring myself to actually do it - is because they were out of champagne, and I really wanted a mimosa. But I had a perfect vodka lemonade to replace it, so there's that.... Definitely want to go back for dinner and drinks at the bar. Hit this place up for sure if you're in the area.

This place is great. It had been a few years since I had been there. Labor day weekend and 2 Saturdays after that my wife and I ate and had a few beverages. The food is out of this world good and all of it is homemade and great TLC is given to it to ensure it is oh so good. Sitting in the bar is awesome as well - everyone that works there and the customers are so friendly it makes you feel like you have always been a regular. We will be there this weekend again cannot wait.

My cousin and I stopped in here on a Saturday. We'd been in New Munster and needed some food quickly. Neither of us were familiar with the area so I checked my Yelp app and Mad Dan's came up first. There was no discussion; it has 4 stars and it's called "Mad Dan's". How could we not eat here? We got there around 3pm and, being in between lunch and dinner, it was quiet. The place is very clean and neatly set up. Like many small town Wisconsin places it has a separate bar area from the family dining one. Not being fancy types, we opted for the bar. Service is prompt and friendly. We had menus and glasses of New Glarus "Two Women" in mere minutes. I ordered the 1/2 lb Mad Burger; which has bacon, grilled onions, mushrooms and cheese (lettuce and tomato on the side). I asked for some horseradish and the server was only to happy to get me some. The burger was very tasty. I'd say better than expected for a small bar and grill. It came with fries (good) and coleslaw (also good). I'm not sure why they bothered with the 'slaw, however. It was basically a sample size and not worth the effort. The small 'slaw has to be my only complaint. I'm not sure when I'll be in Two Lakes again but Mad Dan's will likely be my choice for food and drinks.

ANGER MANAGEMENT THERAPY! This is the place to fix everything! I am assuming the guy working behind the bar was Dan (my wife recognized him from the newspaper). He seemed very happy and not mad at all. It was 4th of July weekend and I saw him doing a few shots with patrons at the bar. So yeah he was Happy Dan, maybe he should change the name of the bar. We were attending the 4th of July festivities at Twin Lakes and our little one was hungry. I really couldn't feed her that carnival crap, so we headed up to Main Street to see what caught our eye. We walked all the way down the street but ended walking back down to Mad Dan's. I was surprised when we walked in to find plenty of room in the bar area. The dinning room was about half full too. We told the hostess we weren't looking for dinner but food for our little one. So she decided to sit us in the bar. As we sat in the bar and looked over the menu. We tried to figure out what to get our little one. We decided to get her a big bowl of chicken dumpling soup. This kid loves soup. I also took out her giant dumplings and cut them up into smaller bite size pieces. I must say the soup was very tasty. My wife & I had two spotted cows on tap. I loved that the mugs were chilled. As we were sitting there we decided we needed something to wash down our spotted cows with, so we ordered some onion rings. There is nothing like sharing a plate of onion rings for dinner. I being a little sarcastic because I'd like my own plate of onion rings. We also decided we needed another spotted cow. The onion rings were good but not life changing. They were also not house made but the frozen food service variety. Prior to us ordering some food, my wife asked our waitress what they made fresh at Mad Dan's. After a 30 second pause, she told us that the Shrimp cocktail was the only thing they made fresh. I had to laugh and think did Mad Dan catch the shrimp in Twin Lakes and if he was searching for those shrimp in the lake, I can see why he's so mad. I'm not sure if anything on the menu is made in house and our waitress wasn't any help in that area. There was plenty of great people watching going on in the bar. There was this biker couple who kept coming in for shots every 20 minutes. We saw them down by the beer tent near the 4th of July festival. They were hardcore drinking. Making the trek up to Mad Dan's just for a shot and then back down to the lake festivities. I sure hope they weren't driving. There was also plenty of great dead animal to look at on the walls in here. I love Wisconsin bars cause they are like a museum with beer and cheese curds. The Field Museum has tons of dead stuffed animals but no beer tapper. Hint Hint...Field Museum!!! I will say there was the most annoying obnoxious guy sitting behind us. His voice was so loud and he was talking about stupid stuff. I have no idea how his table was putting up with him. We decided we could not deal with him anymore, so we closed out our check. I was starting to become Mad Antkneee! I also loved that there was a fridge in the bar that sold worms for fishing. That is so Wisconsin. Stop by Mad Dan's for a shot of whiskey and a pint of night crawlers, that's the breakfast of a Wisconsin fisherman. So if you find yourself in Twin Lakes, I highly recommend you stop in and see Happy Dan and if you don't then he's going to be Mad. We don't want to actually see Dan when he's mad...it's probably not fun!!!

I usually come here for the outstanding broasted chicken and home made chicken and dumpling soup. On Sunday's they do breakfast and I happened to be in the area. They advertise the best biscuits and gravy in the area. I'd have to say best I've ever had anywhere!

Our friends have a place in Twin Lakes and recommended that we go to Mad Dan's one Saturday night a few weeks ago. As it was probably off-season (and the Badgers were playing the Buckeyes), the restaurant had a fair number of folks, but wasn't crowded. The 9 of us sat in two tables on the bar side under Mad Dan in his boat. Decor-wise, it's what you would expect for a Wisco family restaurant: lots of stuffed things hanging on the walls, fishing themed nicknacks and country doodads...but in a good way. Dan's has a small, but solid variety of Wisconsin beers (several New Glarus varieties, etc) as well as the usual suspects. The food was tasty country lodge fare. Portions are huge. So consider splitting entrees. For example, my broasted chicken dinner could have easily fed 2 people. Everyone at our tables seemed to enjoy their dinners. If you're ever in Twin Lakes, Mad Dan's is a solid choice.

Tons of small town love in this restaurant. The food was solid - we came on Fish Fry night and got ribs and chicken and burgers. Burgers- inhaled by our companions. Chicken- huge thumbs up. Ribs- just ok. Mental note to get the house special and that I'm a little bit spoiled with Chicago ribs. They have New Glarus on tap at WI prices (think $12 for 4 beers) and occasionally a local guy will play and sing (think sailing tunes, country, folk and a little modern pop). It gets quite busy, but with $3/ pint I sure don't mind waiting!

Nice place. a little crowded, so we waited at the bar for a table...talkng to locals, were told to try the mac & cheese...its supposed to be what they are noted for. The drinks were good...the ambience was fun...we were seated...I had the broasted chicken...(very good) ..but the mac and cheese..Not so much..it was cold and dry..Stoffer's microwavable is a million times better...just sayin'

This place is awesome. Great atmosphere and Wisconsin micro brews to boot. On tap. I recommend going during the week............ I'm not a huge fan of super crowded bars on the weekends. The staff is super friendly too.

Went here on a sunday for breakfast. Service was amazing. Unfortunately the breakfast food was okay but nothing worth coming back for. I heard their ribs are great so i will need to come back for that. Waffle wasnt crisp. Cold syrup. Frozen hashbrowns not fresh. Bloody mary was good. Biscuits and gravy werent that great either. Pretty disappointed but i think worth coming back to try dinner.

I came here Saturday night with the hubby on the way into the lake house. We decided to get carryout and am I glad we did! This place is hopping! I think the wait was about 30 minutes for a table. We wanted to enjoy our meal at the house watching a movie. It was our mini weekend getaway. Anyway, I ordered chicken strips with fries and he got a 1/2 lb cheeseburger with fries. Price: $14.95. The food didn't take long and we were on the way to get home to eat. The chicken strips were tasty. I don't like it when they have a lot of breading. I got 5 strips! The fries were decent. They were a little soggy being in a Styrofoam container. The hubby enjoyed the burger but was surprised that they didn't use real cheese. It was the nacho cheese instead. Come on Wisconsin! You are known for cheese! This is a great place to go for a bite to eat. We enjoyed the food and the service by the hostess and the server that took our order. I will be back!

My husband and I went there tonight for dinner with one other adult and two teens. We live about an hour away and we were in Twin Lakes visiting our daughter. I can't say that I would drive all the way back up there just to eat at Mad Dan's, but would definitely eat there again if we were in the area. All of us really liked our food. I had the prime rib and was pleasantly surprised. It was cooked perfectly and the Queen cut was almost too big. The service was really good too. No complaints here!

Excellent steaks, burgers and an amazing prime rib. Sorry I can't rate the seafood, seafood makes me puke. My father assured me it was all excellent, and the place does not smell like the fishmongers hip waders so I believed him. Many of dads cronies also enjoyed the seafood. This was one of my fathers favorite prime rib spots, so I would wind up there on birthdays, graduations, baptisms and even my fathers wake. The staff are so good that the day of the old mans wake his favorite waitress had me laughing till I damn near fell of my bar stool. This was not done at the end of the evening as you would expect, but minutes after I arrived. The entire staff knew the old kraut had died and made over 20 mourners feel at home. I'll bet the bartender bought half of the rounds, and with 20 or so grieving Germans there it may well have been $400.00 of free libations. Please do not let the fact that Jessica Simpson played a show here affect your decision to try this place. I understand that the local cheeseheads and my fellow flatlanders boo'd her country warbeling, crooning or whatever that racket she thinks is music. I heard she is not welcome to perform there again. Had I been there I'd have ordered the braised walleye or the pan fried smelts, and thrown them at her.

The map is incorrect as it shoes the location where it had existed years ago before the fire. It is now located in downtown Twin Lakes. New owners but same tradition. Great food at great prices. Last time I went was with a large group on Wednesday night. Take note that on Wednesday nights during the summer, there are Aquanut water ski shows which adds to the crowd. Broasted chicken is one of their specialties but I chose the grilled pork chop and selected the chicken dumpling soup and baked potato. The pork chop was moist and tasteful. The soup is one of their signatures and was excellent as usual. The menus is extensive and Mad Dans has daily specials. One of three great restaurants in Twin Lakes, the other two being Pier West and Sand Bar Island Grill.
